Abstract
The endangered seagrass, Zostera capensis is currently restricted to only a few estuaries in KwaZulu-Natal; three (Amatikulu, Mlalazi, Mhlatuze) of which are situated <50km apart. Population genomic analyses using Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) isolated from 31 individuals collected from the three closest estuaries, show distinct population clusters and that Mlalazi has very low levels of genomic diversity. Results suggest that conservation and restoration efforts need to carefully consider unique population signals of Z. capensis even when populations are geographically close.
This folder contains the raw data used for the article:
Smit et al. Zostera capensis populations in KwaZulu-Natal estuaries harbour distinct genomic signals despite limited geographical distance.
The folder "Raw_Reads" contains the forward and reverse reads of all samples that was initially subject to sequencing. The samples that were excluded from downstream analysis are also provided. The samples were taken from 4 sites and labeled accordingly:
Kosi Estuary - KOS (Excluded from downstream analyses), Amatikulu - AMT, Mlalazi - MLA, Mhlatuze - HLA.
The raw read files are named according to the following convention: [PlateNumber]-[WellNumber]-[AuthorName]-[AuthorIntialSiteAbreviationSampleNumber]-[ReadNr]. Where the Site abbreviations are provided above, there is a forward and reverse read for each sample in the dataset. E.g., P02-B04-Engela-EAMT16_R2.
