Abstract
We compared male fitness (male sterility, seminal vesicle area, and number of spermatozoa), female fitness (eggs production), growth rate (body mass and shell length), and whole body metabolism between the three mitotypes (D male-sterile individuals, N normal hermaphrodite, and K restored hermaphrodite) at two temperatures (18°C and 25°C).

The data contains measurement of the following traits:
- male fitness (male status [sterile or fertile], number of spermatozoa and seminal vesicle area);
- female fitness (egg production);
- growth rate (body mass and shell length);
- whole body metabolism.
We compared all these traits between the three groups : mitotypes D (male-sterile), mitotype N (normal hermaphrodite) and mitotype K (restored hermaphrodite) at two temperatures : 18°C and 25°C.
Description of the data and file structure
There are 6 data files (named "data_xxxxx.txt") and 1 R script (named "scripts_CMSxTemperature_Physa acuta").
More informations about the data files:
There are empty cells in some columns, which correspond to missing data, i.e., data that were not collected (e.g., the snail individual died before measurement).
These two following dataset contains the 12 variables (12 column total):
- data_repro.txt contains the measurements of the traits mentioned above for the 50 individuals per mitotype (regardless of their male status).
- data_sf.txt contains data of N and K male-fertile individuals (normal hermaphrodite and restored hermaphrodite, respectively) and D male-sterile individuals.
- temperature (in celsius degree (°C))
- mitotype: N for normal hermaphrodite, K for restored hermaphrodite and D for male-sterile
- individu: the individual's number
- poids: the whole body mass (shell + body) in g
- taille: the maximal shell lenght in mm
- taux de croissance poids: growth rate from the body mass (in g/day)
- taux de croissance taille: growth rate from the shell length (in mm/day)
- pigmentation ponte albinos: pigmentation of the offspring produced by the albino partner used to determine male status (1 = pigmented eggs; 0 = albinos)
- sterile_fertile: male status (sterile or fertile according to the pigmentation of the offsprings of the albino partner)
- n oeufs focal: number of eggs produced by the focal individual
- surface vs: seminal vesicle area (in mm²)
- MO2 / pds: in vivo metabolic rate (in mgO2.h-1.mg snail-1)
The following dataset contains data of N and K male-fertile individuals (normal hermaphrodite and restored hermaphrodite, respectively) and D male-sterile individuals.
