This data set includes information on the mortality of birch (Betula pendula and B. pubescens) stumps, and the number and height of stump sprouts after the biocontrol treatment when birch saplings were cut and a decay fungus, Chondrostereum purpurem, was spread on freshly cut stump surfaces. Similarly, data is provided when birch saplings were cut only. Data is provided for three growing seasons after the treatments. 
Data sets are provided separately for two different mechanized sprout control applications: Cutlink and Vihtoja.

Each Excel file includes explanations for each variable in the data. Data on the sprouting potential of birch saplings could be used in other related studies.

Description of the data and file structure

Birch data files include data on the mortality of birch (Betula pendula and B. pubescens) stumps, and the number and height of living stump sprouts. 
Spruce data files include data on the proportion of cut and damaged spruces and the occurrence of uncut hardwood saplings around spruces. Consumption data files include the time and inoculum medium used to treat the sample plots. Each data file has a separate worksheet describing each variable in the data.

NOTE: In the data set, "n/a" means "not applicable", i.e., a cell does not apply to the situation. "null" means a cell has no value.
