Abstract
This dataset includes photographic vouchers of 154 of the 166 bumble bee specimens that were collected in 2016 across the state of Texas for the purpose of genetic analyses of the taxonomic status of Bombus sonorus. Double digest restriction enzyme associated DNA sequencing (ddRADseq) was performed on all specimens (58 B. sonorus and 108 B. pensylvanicus), and a portion of the mitochondrial COI gene was sequenced for a subset of the specimens (46 B. sonorus and 32 B. pensylvanicus). Additionally, a spreadsheet containing further information about each specimen is included.
Double digest restriction enzyme associated DNA sequencing (ddRADseq) was performed on all specimens (58 *B. sonorus and 108 B. pensylvanicus), and a portion of the *mitochondrial COI gene was sequenced for a subset of the specimens (46 B. sonorus and 32 B. pensylvanicus). The ddRADseq VCF and COI sequence alignment files are also included here.

This dataset includes photographic vouchers of 154 of the 166 bumble bee specimens that were collected in 2016 across the state of Texas for the purpose of genetic analyses of the taxonomic status of Bombus sonorus. Each specimen is photographed with its unique identifier used for the study. Additionally, a spreadsheet containing further information about each specimen is included.
Double digest restriction enzyme associated DNA sequencing (ddRADseq) was performed on all specimens (58 *B. sonorus and 108 B. pensylvanicus), and a portion of the mitochondrial COI gene was sequenced for a subset of the specimens (46 *B. sonorus and 32 B. pensylvanicus). The ddRADseq VCF and COI sequence alignment files are also included here.
Description of the data and file structure
- Two .jpg images are included for each specimen. These serve as vouchers for verification of the identity of the specimens.
- One .xls file is included with identifying information about each specimen. Spreadsheet columns are (A) ID (unique bee sample identifier; these numbers also correspond to the image names of the photos, with some exceptions wherein the image file name has an extra 0 or 00 in front of the number, e.g. images B1a and B1b correspond to sample B001 in the spreadsheet), (B) State (state where sample was collected), (C) County (county where sample was collected), (D, E) Latitude/Longitude (coordinates where sample was collected), (F) Species (specific epithet of sample), (G) Sex. (H) RADseq data (yes indicates that the sample was used to generate RADseq data, no indicates the contrary), (I) COI haplotype (letter indicates the COI haplotype identified for the sample; if blank, that sample was not included in COI analysis).
- ddRADseq sequence alignment is in a .vcf file.
- COI sequence alignment is in a .nex file .
Images were catalogued prior to DNA extraction. Collection information about each bee (date, location, etc.) can be found in the .xls file.
