Abstract
This dataset represents de-identified post-trial survey responses from participants in either control or treatment groups for the Fall 2024 shared micromobility (SMM) pricing trial launched in partnership with SPIN in Davis, CA. The trial sought to understand the potential effect of a new flat rate pricing plan on users' demand for SMM. We designed new flat rate plans with two different minute caps (15 minutes and 25 minutes) and three different pricing levels ($1.75, $2.50, and $3.25); SPIN randomly selected 1,164 current SMM users and assigned them to one of the six new pricing plans (two minute caps x three price levels). Those assigned to a treatment group could choose to use the assigned new flat rate pricing plan or any existing plan for each trip during the trial period. We analyzed users’ SMM trip frequency before and during the trial.
The post-trial survey collected information about general socio-demographic characteristics (e.g., race, gender, income) and any life events that may have influenced respondents’ typical use of SPIN services. Additional questions assessed awareness of the promotional flat rate pricing, preferences between e-bikes and e-scooters, and perceptions of SPIN device availability.

Human subjects data
We received explicit consent from our participants to publish the de-identified data in the public domain before they took the survey. The consent statement to enter the survey read: “We will use your information to conduct this study. Data collected for this research may also be used for future research studies. We will not share any personally identifiable information. Our goal is to make more research possible. These studies may be done by researchers at this institution or other institutions, including commercial entities. Data may be placed in one or more external scientific databases for access and use. We will not ask you for additional permission to share de-identified information.”
We de-identified the data by removing all variables with PII; remaining variables are insufficient to identify any respondents.
We conducted the survey on Qualtrics. Our survey sample included users who were formally enrolled in the trial – assigned to either the treatment or control groups – as well as users who were not selected, serving as an equivalent control group. We adopted this broader inclusion strategy to mitigate concerns about limited sample size, particularly within the control group. SPIN distributed the survey via email on our behalf. To enhance response rates, we offered an incentive drawing of ten $60 gift cards.
The data was processed to remove any variables containing PII, remove observations with no answers given, and harmonize variable names. Two respondents started the survey twice; we identified these duplicates and kept the instance of survey response that was more complete.
