Abstract
These data reflect the floral visitor survey and mark-recapture efforts used in the 2022 study, "High Foraging Fidelity and Plant‑Pollinator Network Dominance of Non‑native Honeybees (Apis mellifera) in the Ecuadorian Andes"
This dataset is from the manuscript “High foraging fidelity and plant-pollinator network dominance of non-native honey bees (Apis mellifera) in the Ecuadorian Andes” and provides the details of the floral visitors, and the plants they were collected on.
Worksheet Data
all.visit = this worksheet shows all pooled floral visitation data for both experiments (Survey and Mark.recapture)
freq.and.abund = this worksheet has frequency and relative abundance plant data from the floral visitor survey
visitor.rel.abund relative = this worksheet has the abundance floral visitor data from the floral visitor survey
all.visit worksheet
Experiment = identifies which experiment the data were collected in (Survey or Mark.recapture)
Date = date when observation was made
Date.num = numeric order of observations
Time = time of day (morning, midday, afternoon)
Transect = transect ID
Visitor.taxa = species of floral visitor
Flower = taxonomic ID of the flowering plant off of which the floral visitor was collected
freq.and.abund worksheet
Transect = transect ID
Flower = taxonomic ID of the flowering plant off of which the floral visitor was collected
Flower.short = abbreviated name of flowering plant species
tot.visitors = total number of individual floral visitors observed visiting that plant species in that transect
visitor.diversity = species richness of floral visitors to that plant species in that transect
tot.obs = total number of observations to any plant in that transect
tot.visitor.diversity = total species richness of floral visitors in that transect
Visit.frequency = total number of individual floral visitors to that species (tot.visitors)/total number of observations (tot.obs)
percent.diversity = visitor.diversity/tot.visitor.diversity
n.plants.transect = number of plants of that plant species visited along the transect
num.open.flowers = total number of open flowers of that plant species along the transect
tot.plants = total number of all plants (summed across all species) along the transect
tot.open.flowers= total number of open flowers (summed across all species) along the transect
rel.abund.flower = relative abundance of open flowers along the transect calculated by: num.open.flowers/tot.open.flowers
rel.abund.plant = relative abundance of plants along the transect calculated by: n.plants.transect/tot.plants
visitor.rel.abund worksheet
Visitor.taxa = species of floral visitor
Transect = transect ID
Flower = taxonomic ID of the flowering plant off of which the floral visitor was collected
vis.abund = abundance of that species of floral visitors observed visiting that plant species in that transect
tot.visitors = total number of visitors of any insect species to that specific species of plant
rel.abund.vis = relative abundance of visitors calculated by: 100*vis.abund/tot.visitors
Hymenoptera were netted along four transects at the study site in Ecuador. Data were collected for both a mark-recapture study and a timed all Hymenoptera survey of floral visiting taxa. For details on the methods, please refer to the published study.
