This file accompanies the excel data file "Roper et al_SlugMiteTransmission_Data". The data file contains five tabs: (1) MiteMucusChoicePvsUP&FvsD Each row is an individual mite that was given the choice of mucus (either fresh or dried) from a parasitised slug and an unparasitised slug Column A: Time on the left side of the arena (seconds) Column B: Was mucus on the left side of the arena from a parasitised or unparasitised slug? Column C: Age of mucus used in each trial (fresh/old) Column D: The identity of the slug from which mites were taken for use as subjects in the experiment. Column E: Did mites walk on both sides of the arena during the trial? (yes/no) (2) MiteMucusChoiceOwnvsOtherHost Each row is an individual mite that was given the choice of mucus from its own host and from another parasitised slug. Column A: Time on the left side of the arena (seconds) Column B: Was mucus from the mite's own host on the left side of the arena? (yes/no) Column C: The identity of the slug from which mites were taken for use as subjects in the experiment. Column D: Did mites move at all during the trial? (yes/no) Column E: Did mites walk on both sides of the arena during the trial? (yes/no) (3) TransmissionWithvsWithoutMucus Each row contains data from a trial in which transmission was recorded from a parasitised to an unparasitised slug when separated by either a thin or thick barrier. Column A: Were mites found on the parasitised slug? (yes/no) Column B: Thin barrier or thick barrier (4) SlugMucusChoiceSoilPvsUP Each row is an individual slug (subject) that was given the choice of soil with mucus from either a parasitised and unparasitised conspecific (the donor) vs without mucus. Column A: Parasitism status of the donor (parasitised or unparasitised) Column B: Parasitism status of the subject (parasitised or unparasitised) Column C: Time on mucus (seconds) Column D: Time off mucus (seconds) Column E: Does the subject spend more time on versus off mucus? (yes/no) (5) SlugMucusChoiceShelterPvsUP Each row is an individual slug (subject) that was given the choice of two shelters containing mucus from a parasitised and unparasitised conspecific (the donor). Column A: Parasitism status of the subject (parasitised or unparasitised) Column B: For the first shelter the subject entered, what was the parasitism status of the donor? (parasitised or unparasitised) Column C: Did the subject leave the first shelter it entered? (yes, no)
