The zipped file contains two data file described below that were used in the analysis for the manuscript "The biological basis of Taylor’s Power Law revisited: using host-parasite interactions to reveal the drivers of aggregation" File name: ESM2_experimental_data.csv ------------------------------------- Experimentally measured values of competence and virulence for the 20 different host-parasite combinations used in the mixed model analysis. Column names ------------ host_spp: Four letter code for amphibian host species. PSRE = Pseudacris regilla BUBO = Anaxyrus boreas TATO = Taricha torosa RACA = Lithobates catesbeianus parasite_spp: Code for parasite species Alaria: Alaria sp. 2 Rib: Ribeiroia ondatrae Echino: Echinostoma trivolvis Glob: Cephalogonimus americanus virulence: Coefficient from firth-adjusted logistic regression. Gives the change in log-odds of a host dying with an addition of one parasite. sample_size_virulence: Number of data points used in the firth-adjusted logistic regression. competence: The average fraction of meta or mesocercariae that successfully infected a host 20 days post-exposure. sample_size_competence: The sample size from which average competence was calculated. File name: ESM4_hostparasite_tpl_data.csv ------------------------------------------ The dataset has 971 rows (not including the header) and 12 columns. Each column in the dataset is described below. log always refers to log base 10. Column Descriptions ------------------- logmean: The observed log mean for a particular host-parasite distribution. logvar: The observed log variance for a particular host-parasite distribution. H: The total number of hosts that comprise the mean. P: The total number of parasites that comprise the mean. fs_var: The median feasible set predicted variance given 1000 random draws from a partition model constrained on P and H (on the natural scale) lower: The lower 2.5% quantile for the feasible set variance on the natural scale. upper: The upper 97.5% quantile for the feasible set variance on the natural scale fs_var_mean: The mean of the feasible set predicted variance given 1000 random draws. fs_var_log_med: The median feasible set predicted log variance given 1000 draws of from a partition model constrained on P and H. lower_log: The lower 2.5% quantile for the feasible set log variance. upper_low: The upper 97.5% quantile for the feasible set log variance. fs_var_mean_log: The mean feasible set predicted log variance.
