README file: INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION: This DRYAD data account is associated with the paper: Malenke, J. R., N. Newbold, D. H. Clayton. Condition-specific competition governs the geographic distribution and diversity of parasites. The American Naturalist. This is the README file for 1 of 5 datafiles associated with this account. All the data files are comma delimited, with returns to delimit ends. The first line of ever file is the column headers for the data. File name: "incubator_masschange_fig5.txt" This file contains the data for the short-term mass loss trial in an incubator. It includes average weights for groups C. macourae3 and C. baculoides before and after time spent in a low humidity (40%r.h.) environment. The data were collected by N. Newbold and J. R. Malenke. Questions can be directed to J. R. Malenke. DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION: File Name: "incubator_masschange_fig5.txt" This file contains mass values for replicates of 10 lice before and after 8 hours in a low humidity incubator. Each value is an average of at least 3 weighings. There are 3 columns in this file; the names and explanations are: "louse spp" = nominal, categorical data indicating louse species: "C. mac" is C. macrourae, "C. bac" is C. baculoides. "mass before" = average mass of louse replicates BEFORE incubator treatment, in milligrams. "mass after" = average mass of louse replicates AFTER incubator treatment, in milligrams. There are no missing data in this file.
