Spatial and temporal partitioning in martens and fishers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA Elizabeth Croose, Florent Bled, Nicholas L. Fowler, Dean E. Beyer, Jerrold L. Belant (2019) American marten and fisher do not segregate in space and time during winter in a mixed-forest system. Ecology and Evolution. This file explains the datasets that accompany this paper. The following data are provided in the excel sheet, in separate worksheets: * Covariates used for the occupancy model, presented by cell number. * Marten detection data, provided by cell number and survey period. Final detection data comprised 3 years (primary survey periods), each with 4 secondary periods (i.e. data pooled in 4, 2-week sessions per site, per year). Survey periods are defined primary survey period: secondary period (e.g. 2.4 is year 2: week 4). * Fisher detection data. Explanation of data is the same as for marten. * All of the above data were implemented in a model in R (v.3.4.0, R Core Team 2017) with the package unmarked (Fiske & Chandler 2011), using function colext for the dynamic occupancy models and function occu to estimate year-specific occupancy probabilities for single season models. o See: Fiske, I. & Chandler, R. 2011. unmarked: An R Package for Fitting Hierarchical Models of Wildlife Occurrence and Abundance. Journal of Statistical Software. 43(10): 1-23. Available at: http://www.jstatsoft.org/v43/i10/ * Temporal data. The cell number, date, time and species are given for each detection (image of a marten or fisher recorded on a camera trap). * R code for the temporal overlap of martens and fishers, implemented using package ‘overlap’ (version 0.2.6) (Ridout & Linkie 2009). o See: Ridout, M.S. & Linkie, M. 2009.
