Abstract
The present dataset contains the entirety of the raw empirical data used in the manuscript entitled: "Female-specific resource limitation does not make the opportunity for selection more female biased". This data is composed of offspring count and weight, which represent proxys of fitness. Fitness was assessed for males and females independently, and across three different experimental treatments. These fitness measures are used to calculate the opportunity for selection, as the variance in realtive fitness. Detailed methods regarding data collection can be found in the main manuscript.
Methods
See manuscript "Female-specific resource limitation does not make the opportunity for selection more female biased", method section.
Usage notes
Data: raw fitness data (offspring count and weight)
###################################
Page1 (Raw): Raw data as collected
Page2 (no_NAS): Raw data with NAs removed and additional columns (see description of headers below). NAs correspond to assays where less than 4 individuals were found, which are automatically considered faulty assays (a normal assay contains 4 parental individuals at least).
###################################
Description of data headers Page 1:
-Type_id:unique identifier for each data point.
-Treatment: Experimental treatment (see manuscript for more details)
-Sex: Type of assay, "f" for female, "m" for male.
-date: Unique identifier for the day a particular assay was set up.
-Weight: Total weight of individuals in the assay.
-Offspring: Total number of individuals in the assay.
###################################
Description of data headers Page2:
-Type_id, treatment, sex, date, weight: same as Page1.
-Ind_weight: Total offspring weight divided by offspring number=individual offspring weight.
-individuals (eq. to offspring from Page 1): number of individuals counted in the assay, which should be 4 parent individuals + offspring.
-offspring: actual number of offspring= number of individuals-4 (removing 4 parents)
-reloff_sex_trt: Relative offspring count (divided by the mean to obtain an average of 1) per sex per treatment.
-relw_sex_trt: Relative offspring weight per sex per treatment.
