Association between family income to poverty ratio and nocturia in adults aged 20 years and older
Abstract
Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in 2005-2010, including 6,662 adults aged 20 or older, were utilized for this cross-sectional study. The baseline data was used to display the distribution of each characteristic visually. Multiple linear regression and smooth curve fitting were used to study the linear and non-linear correlations between PIR and nocturia. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests were conducted to examine the stability of intergroup relationships.

The “Data” originates from the NHANES database and represents the data obtained after our screening process. “RCS” includes the code for conducting restricted cubic spline regression on the data after applying weights. “subgroup” contains the code for performing subgroup analysis on the weighted dataset. “1.4svyscitb5” is utilized to weigh the dataset during subgroup analysis. Through “RCS,” “subgroup,” and “1.4svyscitb5,” we analyzed “Data” and identified a significant nonlinear relationship between PIR and nocturia. We also listed the correlations between various subgroups and their associations with PIR and nocturia.
Description of the data and file structure
Data
Seqn: The patient sequence number corresponding to the NHANES database.
Gender: The gender of the participants.
Age: The age range of the participants.
Race: The race of the participants.
Education: The education level of the participants.
Marry: The marital status of the participants.
PIR: The family income to poverty ratio of the participants.
Cotinine: The concentration of cotinine range in participants' blood. 1 represents the concentration of cotinine <0.015 ng/ml. 2 represents cotinine concentration between 0.015 and 3 ng/ml. 3 represents the concentration of cotinine >3 ng/ml.
BMI: Categorical range of the participant's Body Mass Index.
Drink: The response to “Had at least 12 alcohol drinks/1 year.” 0 = no, 1 = yes
Hypertension: This indicates whether participants have hypertension. 0 = no, 1 = yes
Diabetes: This indicates whether participants have diabetes. 0 = no, 1 = yes
Nocturia: This indicates whether participants have nocturia. 0 represents the participant has no nocturia, and 1 represents that the participant has nocturia. Wtint2yr, wtmec2yr, sdmvpsu, sdmvstra: The original weights obtained from the NHANES database.
Weight: The final weights obtained after analysis.
RCS, 1.4svyscitb5, and subgroup
The “Data” contains the data of the final selected population through our screening. “RCS, “1.4svyscitb5,” and “subgroup” are all run using R Project. Running “RCS,” restricted cubic spline regression analysis is conducted on the data in “Data” three times based on annotations in our code. Running “subgroup” and “1.4svyscitb5,” subgroup analysis is performed on the data in “Data” according to annotations in our code.

All indirect identifiable categories were anonymized to protect the identity of participants.
Methods
We obtained data from the NHANES database website for the three cycles of 2005-2006, 2007-2008, and 2009-2010. Data analysis, including baseline characteristic distribution, logistic regression analysis, RCS curves, and subgroup analysis, was conducted using StataMP17.0 and R language 4.2.2.
