Abstract
Traditionally, counselor education instruction has taken place in the face-to-face format. However, with the shift toward online learning, more counselor education programs are incorporating distance education into the curriculum. This study is an examination of skills acquisition and comparison of students enrolled in introductory counseling skills courses in an online counselor education program. The courses were delivered online with brief face-to-face meetings in two different formats: four consecutive days or two separate weekends. Results indicated no significant differences in student counseling skill acquisition between the two hybrid formats. Students in both courses demonstrated skills at basic mastery levels.
