Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: Data collected and analyzed as part of this study, Albers, J.L., J.P. Steibel, R.H. Klingler, L.N. Ivan, N. Garcia-Reyero, M.J. Carvan, C.A. Murphy. In Press. Altered larval yellow perch swimming behavior due to methylmercury and PCB126 detected using hidden Markov chain models. Environmental Science & Technology DOI:10.1021/acs.est.1c07505 2. Methods for processing the data: As described in the journal article, this data was generated by Ctrax tracking software using videos of fish free swimming in petri dishes. All tracking erros have been corrected in this data and distance and turning angles have been calculated using the movement criteria stated in the manuscript. This data is the data used to conduct the Hidden Markov Chain models and calculate average individual fish behavior endpoints. 3. Instrument- or software-specific information needed to interpret the data: NA 4. Standards and calibration information, if appropriate: Video resolution made track locations accurate to one pixel or 0.15 mm. 5. Environmental/experimental conditions: This experiment consisted of three treatments for each chemical. There were 10 larva in each petri dish. The larva were enclosed in a behavior chamber that had constant light and was buffered by outside noise and light. 6. Describe any quality-assurance procedures performed on the data: Using Ctrax Matlab Error Correcting GUI, we corrected all tracks so that they did not 1) switch between larva, 2) end prematurely, and 3) so the x,y coordinate was in the center of the larva's body. 7. People involved with sample collection, processing, analysis and/or submission: Janice L. Albers, Rebekah H. Klingler, Michael J. Carvan, Cheryl A. Murphy, Annica Brocker, Noah Dean, Sean Egleston, and Taylor Lawrence DATA-SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR: yp_2016_2017_loco_xylocations.csv 1. Number of variables: 10 2. Number of cases/rows: 10964140 3. Variable List: variable name: treatment description: Character variable that describes what chemical treatment that fish was exposed to. unit: NA value labels: "MeHg-2 0.001uM", "MeHg-3 0.1uM", "MeHg-1 0uM", "PCB126-2 0.01ppm", "PCB126-1 0ppm", "PCB126-3 1ppm" variable name: "assay_date_MM/DD/YYYY" description: Character variable that says what date the assay was performed on. unit: NA value labels: "4/19/2016", "7/24/2017" variable name: "assay_time_hh:mm:ss" description: Character variable that says what time the assay was performed on. unit: Central Daylight Savings Time value labels: NA variable name: "ID" description: Identification number of the fish within each chemical, 621 in MeHg or 599 in PCB126. unit: NA value labels: NA variable name: "fish_length_mm" description: Larva length, from mouth to tail. One fish length could not be measured, is 'NA'. unit: millimeters value labels: NA variable name: "frame" description: Frame of video during the 5 minute assay. Starts at 14 frames because of 10 frame removal and 3rd frame is the first where turning angles could be calculated. unit: One frame every 1/30th of a second. value labels: 14-9000 variable name: "x_mm" description: X coordinate value. unit: millimeter value labels: NA variable name: "y_mm" description: Y coordinate value. unit: millimeter value labels: NA variable name: "turning_angle_radians" description: Turning angle of larva calculated using the difference between the four-quadrant inverse tangent of the two trajectories where the first trajectory was constructed from the first two locations in the sequence, and the second trajectory from the second two locations in the sequence. This results in a turning angle that ranges from -3.14 to 3.14, where zero is straight ahead movement, negative values indicate right turns and positive values indicate left turns. Calculated using only x,y coordinates where fish was moving using the moving critera. If fish did not move, than value is 'NA'. unit: radians value labels: -3.14 to 3.14 variable name: "distance_traveled_mm" description: Distance traveled of a swimming larva between frames where swimming was defined as movement that was at least 1 mm/sec or 0.03333 mm per frame (i.e. magnitude of velocity at larvae center) and lasted longer than 5 frames (0.166 sec). Whereas the resting behavior occurred during frames where movement was less than 1 mm/sec or if greater than 1 mm/sec, lasted less than 5 frames. Where resting behavior occurred, distance for those frames were changed to zero. unit: millimeter value labels: NA 4. Missing data codes: "NA", value could not be obtained. 5.
