The folder contains files needed to perform the analysis described in “Conjugative plasmid transfer is limited by prophages but can be overcome by high conjugation rates” by Claudia Igler, Lukas Schwyter, Daniel Gehrig, Carolin C Wendling A brief description of each file is given below. =========================================================== Competition_Data.txt This file contains the raw data which was used to calculate the fitness of Recipients or Plasmid donors relative to the wild-type in each environment (LB or SM) per pair-wise competition. The column headings are: Strain: Which Strain was used during pair-wise competition against the WT. For a detailed description of each lysogen see Table 1 in the main manuscript. Timepoint: Indicates if cell densities were measured at the beginning (T0) or after 24 hours of pair-wise competition (T24). Environment: In which of the 2 environmental conditions strains were competing (LB or SM). CFU_T0_StrainA: Absolute cell numbers of competing strain, (either plasmid donor or recipient) at time point 0, i.e., directly after mixing CFU_T0_WT: Absolute cell numbers of the wild type (WT) at timepoints 0 CFU_T24_StrainA: Absolute cell numbers of competing strain, (either plasmid donor or recipient) at time point 24 i.e., 24 hours after mixing CFU_T24_WT: Absolute cell numbers of the wild type (WT) at timepoints 24 __________________________________ 24hGrowth.txt This file gives the OD readings from overnight growth assay used to calculate bacterial growth rates. The column headings are: Environment: In which of the 2 environmental conditions growth rate was measured in (LB or SM). Type: Which strain was measured, for details see Table 1 in the main manuscript. Time: Time in seconds OD600: OD reading of optical density (OD) at 660 nm. __________________________________ Main_Experiments.txt This file gives the absolute cell numbers of the different subpopulations from the single-donor, the independent-donor, and the common-donor experiments, as well as the follow up experiments, shown in Supplementary Material, Figure S2. The column headings are: Experiment: Indicates the respective experiment Type: Which subpopulation was quantified, for details see Table 1 in main manuscript Time: timepoints at which subpopulations were quantified, in minutes Environment: In which of the two environment the experiment was performed in (LB or SM) Density: only relevant for the common-donor experiment, whether experiment was performed at high of low starting densities CFU: absolute cell numbers per ml for each subpopulation before correction for detection limit Detection limit: Indicates detection limit for each timepoints, this is not valid for the follow-up experiments, SI Figure 2A CFU_modified: absolute cell numbers per ml for each subpopulation after correction for detection limit =================================================
