Description of Study: C.tullia is a specialist peatland butterfly which has been subjected to multiple local extinctions because of habitat degradation and destruction. A species reintroduction was planned for 2020, in the Chat Moss area to the the west of Manchester UK where there are several peatland restoration sites at various stages of ecosystem restoration. The objectives of this study were to define the biotic and abiotic characteristics of sites suitable to support a C.tullia population, define the habitat resources required by C.tullia and quantify the necessary resource abundance. The data were collected by random quadrat sampling across habitat patches with known C.tullia presence(n=8) or absence(n=5). 2. Description of dataset: Data is collated into a single file LHB.NMDS.PA.csv. 2.1 Number of rows: 132. Each row relates to a single 2m x 2m quadrant. 10 or 12 quadrants were surveyed across each of 13 habitat patches. 2.2 Number of columns: 41. Column A; Quadrat identifier. Columns B to T relate to species data; Sphagnum cuspidatum, Sphagnum capillifolium, Sphagnum denticulatum, Sphagnum fallax, Sphagnum fimbriatum, Sphagnum magellanicum, Sphagnum palustre, Sphagnum papillosum, Sphagnum squarosum, Sphagnum subnitens, Polytrichum_spp, Bryophytes_mixed, Erica tetralix, Eriophorum vaginatum, Eriophorum angustifolium, Juncus effusus, Molinia caerulea, Caluna vulgaris, Tree_species. Column U, the name of the nature reserve and V the presence or absence of C.tullia. Columns W to AH abiotic factors; Sphagnum_cover, Exposed_peat, Inflorescence_count, E.v_tussock_count, E.v_tussock_depth, Sphag_hummock_ht, Relative_height, pH, EC(Electrical Conductivity), ORP(Oxidation-Reduction potential), Peat_water_content, Open_water. columns AI to AO; Descriptors used in various analyses, including the season of data collection Wet/Dry. 2.3 Missing data codes: N/A.
