README Data and code associated with the publication of "Community science data provides evidence for upward elevational range shifts by Eastern Himalayan birds" by Krishna S. Girish and Umesh Srinivasan Journal: Biotropica Year: 2022 In this repository, 4 files are included: 1. ebd_data.csv is a .csv file that includes all the checklist data from eBird from areas surrounding Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary and Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve. It represents the raw unfiltered data of every sighting from the area and spans from the years of 2006 to 2019. 2. ebird_biotropica_final.R is an R script that performs the analysis of the datasets to see how the occurrence probability of a particular species changes over the 2 time periods in the 2 hotspots. All intermediary results throughout the paper are also shown. 3. species_elevation_data.csv is a .csv file that includes all the species considered in the analysis and their summer elevational ranges. 4. girish_srinivasan_2022_phylogeny_93species.nex is a .nex phylogeny file that has the phylogeny of the 93 species considered in the full analysis, used to determine whether or not the species' responses in terms of their occurrence probabilities in checklists was phylogenetically structured. The .R file indicates where each of the 3 datasets need to be selected in order to run the full program. There are some species classified as [Redacted due to Vulnerability] in the species_elevation_data and ebd_data files- these are species whose IUCN red list classification is Vulnerable or rarer (Endangered/Critically Endangered)- so as to not hamper conservation efforts for these rare species, any specific location information on their occurrence has been removed. Since the area of the study is known, this has been done by masking their identity. If it is required for some future study to know what these species are, please contact the authors.
