American Journal of Botany DATA & FILE OVERVIEW 1. File List: 1 Dithyrea diallels.csv: ellipse areas in their original scale of resulting pedigreed seeds created with the diallel mating design performing reciprocal crosses and excluding self-pollinations. 2 res_dam.csv: dam-specific residual ellipse areas of resulting pedigreed seeds created with the diallel mating design performing reciprocal crosses and excluding self-pollinations. 3 res_sire.csv: sire-specific residual ellipse areas of resulting pedigreed seeds created with the diallel mating design performing reciprocal crosses and excluding self-pollinations. 4 Bivariate.csv: mean dam-specific and sire-specific residual ellipse areas of the different genotypes used in the diallel mating designs. 2. Relationship between files, if important: They all represent seed sizes from pedigreed seeds created with the diallel mating design. 3. Additional related data collected that was not included in the current data package: None 4. Are there multiple versions of the dataset? yes/no NO A. If yes, name of file(s) that was updated: i. Why was the file updated? ii. When was the file updated? METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION 1. Description of methods used for collection/generation of data: Seven 5x 5 diallel mating designs of type III (sensu Hayman 1954, reciprocal crosses excluding self pollinations) were performed and replicated in two watering treatments. From these diallels, we produced 8,350 pedigreed seeds that were used to construct these databases. 2. Methods for processing the data: All the pedigreed seeds were photographed and measurements were processed with the software ImageJ, where we got the diameters of seeds which were used to estimate ellipse area in the R software. 3. Instrument- or software-specific information needed to interpret the data: Ellipse areas in relation to the diallel structure were used to estimate the variance components of seed size using the 'lmDiallel' R package from Onofri et al. 2020. 4. Standards and calibration information, if appropriate: N/A 5. Environmental/experimental conditions: Experiment performed in greenhouse conditions 6. Describe any quality-assurance procedures performed on the data: N/A 7. People involved with sample collection, processing, analysis and/or submission: Eugenio Larios, Susan J.
