READ_ME for Hardy et al. data ################## See Supporting Information of Hardy et al. for details on field sampling and sampling design. 1s or 0s reflect surveys where a given toad was captured or recaptured (1) or not (0). "." refers to sampling occasions where the given site was not sampled. Files ending in "_CMR" are the capture-mark-recapture histories for a given site. The first column is the PIT tag number, and each row is an individual animal. The final column includes the entire capture history in a format that program MARK can read as an input file. Files ending in "_ENV" include the elevation, disease (Bd), drought (drought days), and winter start (julian date) for each year of the dataset. Covariates except disease begin 3 years prior to the beginning of the study because hypotheses that use the environmental variables are focused on recruitment. Male boreal toads can recruit into the breeding population at earliest 3 years from metamorphosis. So environmental covariates begin 3 years prior to the study to have an effect on 3yr olds in our first sampling year. For example, environmental covariates stop in 2017 because that is the last cohort of toads born that we would detect as recruited into adult captures in 2020.
