# Title of Dataset: Within-generation and transgenerational social plasticity interact during rapid adaptive evolution --- See paper for detailed methods. Briefly, data on locomotion activity, size, reproductive investent, and body/somatic condition were collected for juvenile and adult crickets. ## Description of the Data and file structure Exp A relates to Experiment 1 in the paper that investigated differences in locomotion behavior of flatwing and normal-wing juvenile crickets Exp B relates to Experiment 2 in the paper that investigated how exposure to male song influences female reproductive investment, body condition, and mating behavior Exp C relates to data on juvenile offspring in Experiment 3 in the paper which investigated the effects of maternal song exposure on juvenile locomotion behavior and size. Exp D relates to data on adult offspring in Experiment 3 of the paper which investigated the effects of maternal song exposure and matched or mismatched song exposure to adult offspring on offspring reproductive investment, size, somatic condition, locomotion behavior, and flight attempts. Final data files end in .xlsx. For all data files, the first tab contains the data, while the second tab contains metadata (descriptions of each column). ExpA_15days.xlsx = data collected for Experiment 1 for individuals at 15 days post hatch. ExpA_45days.xlsx = data collected for Experiment 1 for individuals at 45 days post hatch (same individuals as in ExpA_15days.xlsx) ExpB.xlsx = data collected for Experiment 2 comparing reproductive investment, body condition, and mating behavior in flatwing females exposed to male song or not exposed to male song. ExpC.15days.xlsx = data collected for Experiment 3 exploring the transgenerational effects of maternal song exposure. This datasheet has information on offspring's size and locomotion behavior when the hatch were 15 days post-eclosion. These are the offspring of mothers used in Experiment 2. ExpC.45days.xlsx = same individuals and measurements as in ExpC.15days.xlsx but at 45 days post hatching. ExpD.xlsx = data collected for Experiment 3 for adult offspring (male and female) exposed to either matched or mismatched acoustic cues compared to their mothers. Not the same individuals as in ExpC.15days.xlsx and ExpC.45days.xlsx. Measurements of reproductive investment, size, somatic condition, locomotive activity, and flight attempts. All files ending in .Coordinates.zip are zipped folders containing the raw coordinate text file of each cricket's open-field test. These were extracted from each video using DORIS software. The folders are labeled the same way as the final data files (e.g., Data.ExpA.15.Coordinates.zip contains all the coordinate files for the open field tests of the juveniles used in experiment 1 when they were 15 days old). OpenFieldTestCalculations_juvenile.R and OpenFieldTestCalculations_adult.R contain the scripts used, for juvenile and adult crickets respectively, to smooth the raw coordinate files for each individual cricket's open field test video (extracted by DORIS software) and compute measures of total distance traveled, latency to reach edge, time spent in origin, time spent in middle, and time spent in edge. There is a different script for adult and juvenile crickets because assays were conducted in different sized arenas for juveniles and adults, which changes raster calculations in the scripts. ## Sharing/access Information Links to other publicly accessible locations of the data: NA Was data derived from another source?
