Generally used treatment-related abbreviations and their definitions: AB = Antibiotic (erythromycin) treatment AC = Alarm cue treatment CO = Control treatment ANAC = antibiotic treatment, followed by high-risk treatment ANCO = antibiotic treatment, followed by low-risk treatment COAC = no-antibiotic treatment, followed by high-risk treatment COCO = no-antibiotic treatment, followed by low-risk treatment Column name definitions: date - The date that individuals were sampled at. Subject - The ID number of the individual snail. family - The maternal origin (i.e., maternal ID) of each snail. tank - The ID of the tank that snails were raised in. treatment_combination - The specific treatment combination that individuals were exposed to. AB_treat - The antibiotic exposure regimen (AB: antibiotic exposure, CO: no antibiotic exposure). AC_treat - The risk treatment regimen (AC: high-risk, CO: low-risk). final_density - The number of snails remaining in the tube at the time of sampling. weight_g - The wet weight of each snail, after being dried off with a paper towel as weighed to an accuracy of 0.1 mg with a digital scale (Quintix 124-1S, Sartorius, Göttingen, Germany). thickness_top_mm - The shell thickness at the top of the aperture (shell tip facing downwards) as measured to the nearest 0.01 mm with a digital caliper. thickness_mid_mm - The shell thickness at the middle of the aperture (shell tip facing downwards) as measured to the nearest 0.01 mm with a digital caliper. thickness_bot_mm - The shell thickness at the bottom of the aperture (shell tip facing downwards) as measured to the nearest 0.01 mm with a digital caliper. avgthickness - The average shell thickness, averaged over the three above variables for each snail. Order_orig - The order that snails were measured in. alive - The number of alive snails at the time of sampling. dead - The number of dead snails at the time of sampling. proportion_dead - The proportion of dead snails at the time of sampling. clutches - The number of clutches observable in each tank at the time of sampling. clutches_per_snail - The number of clutches divided by the number of alive snails at the time of sampling.
