# Title of Dataset --- This dataset contains female body weights, egg-laying rates, and embryo sex ratios for females receiving either a control diet, or a diet supplemented with safflower oil and flaxseed oil. ## Description of the data and file structure The CONTROL treatment group received a standard quail diet and the DIET treatment group received a diet that was supplemented with safflower and flaxseed oil, as described in the paper. WT is body weight measured in grams using a digital scale. This was done at the beginning (initial wt) and end (final wt) of the experiment, and we calculated the average of the two (average wt) and also the change from beginning to end (change in wt). Eggs were collected for a number of days before the start of the experiment (pre-experiment days of egg collection) to determine the initial laying rate of females (pre-experiment laying rate), which is the total eggs laid over that time period (pre-exeriment total eggs)by the total number of pre-experiment days of egg collection. We also calculated laying rates during the experiment (Laying rate during experiment), by dividing the total number of eggs collected during the experiment (total eggs during experiment) by the duration of the experiment in days. We also provide sex ratio and fertility data for the eggs that were collected. Males = number of male eggs collected from a female during the experiment, Females = the number of female eggs collected from a female during the experiment, and Infertiles = the number of infertile eggs collected from a female during the experiment. These were eggs with no sign of embryonic development. Birds were kept in two rows of cages, so we provide both the cage number and the row, and these were combined to form a Bird ID.
