#This file explains all of the variables in each of the datasets for the UK dogs that accompany: Unravelling selection signatures in a single dog breed suggests recent selection for morphological and behavioural traits. by J Friedrich, A Talenti, E Strandberg, P Arvelius, M Haskell, P Wiener # Note: the dogs are a subset of the data from https://doi.org/10.5061/dryad.493rk16, but the QC of genotypes and samples resulted in different SNP markers and dogs used for the analyses # The genotypes (Friedrich_SelectionSignaturesDogs_13032020.ped) and map (Friedrich_SelectionSignaturesDogs_13032020.map) files are in PLINK format ======================================================= dataset: Friedrich_SelectionSignaturesDogs_13032020.ped column 1 = Family ID column 2 = Dog ID column 3 = Sire ID (set to missing "-9") column 4 = Dam ID (set to missing "-9") column 5 = Gender (1 = male; 2 = female) column 6 = Phenotype (set to missing "-9") columns 7 and following = Genotypes (nucleotide coding) ======================================================= dataset: Friedrich_SelectionSignaturesDogs_13032020.map column 1 = Chromosome column 2 = SNP ID column 3 = Physical map position column 4 = Position in bp ======================================================= dataset: Friedrich_SelectionSignaturesDogs_Phenotypes_13032020.csv DogID = Dog ID SDA = Stranger-directed aggression DDA = Dog-directed aggression SDF = Stranger-directed fear Play = Human-directed playfulness Ex = Excitability SA = Separation anxiety LO = Lack of obedience SDI = Stranger-directed interest AS = Attachment/ Attention-seeking Ch = Chasing NSF = Non-social fear DDF = Dog-directed fear TS = Touch-sensitivity Coat.colour = Coat colour of the dog (1: Typical GSD coloured, 2: Sable, 3: Black, 4: Other) Coat.length = Length of the coat (1 = long, 2= short) # Note: Behaviour traits were based on the Canine Behavioral Assessment and Research Questionnaire (CBARQ) and then subjected to Principal Component Analysis to condense the data to a smaller number of independent components (doi.org/10.1016/j.applanim.2018.12.004). These components were subsequently adjusted based on other fixed effects as defined in the previous study (doi.org/10.1038/s41437-019-0275-2). However, the population was not fitted as fixed effect for all behaviour traits and coat colour not for Chasing because the ancestry might be confounded with these attributes.
