Data set accompanying Öberg et al. "Rainfall during parental care reduces reproductive and survival components of fitness in a passerine bird" published in Ecology & Evolution (accepted November 2014) The data set comprises 4 separate data files (tab delimited text files) for the 4 fitness parameters analysed: FledgingSuccess.txt - data for analysis of fledging success. RecruitmentSuccess.txt - data for analysis of recruitment success. MaleSurvival.txt - data for analysis of adult male survival. FemaleSurvival.txt - data for analysis of adult female survival. In each data file sample units (data row) are breeding attempts (1st nests only). Data files do not contain breeding attempts with missing data. Details on analyses can be found in Methods section of the paper. VARIABLES in FledgingSuccess.txt: year - year of breeding, coded as numbers from year 4 to year 22 (total of 19 years) FLH - field layer height, 2 classes, coded as 1 = short, 2 = grwing/tall (see Methods section of the paper for details) ELD - egg laying date, i.e. date when the 1st egg of the clutch has been laid [date 1 = 1 May] Temp - daily mean temperature female_age - age of breeding female, 2 classes, coded as Y = one year old, O = 2 years old or older ringnrf - female identity indicated by number clsize - clutch size number_fledged - number of fledged young rain variables calculated during the entire nestling period when chicks 0-15 days old: SumRain - total sum of daily rainfall [mm] NumDays - number of days with rain > 0 mm RainDays - the longest sequence of consecutive days with rain [number of days] NumDays10 - number of days with heavy rain (=10 mm) rain variables calculated during the first half of the nestling period when chicks 0-7 days old: SumRainNest1 NumDaysNest1 RainDaysNest1 NumDays10Nest2 rain variables calculated during the first half of the nestling period when chicks 8-15 days old: SumRainNest2 NumDaysNest2 RainDaysNest2 NumDays10Nest1 VARIABLES in RecruitmentSuccess.txt: year -
