This document describes data files for “Range Expansion and Population Dynamics of an Invasive Species: The Eurasian Collared-Dove (Streptopelia decocto)” (PONE-D-14-04865) archived in the Dryad Digital Depository. Raw data on abundance of the Eurasian Collared-Dove (ECD) through time were acquired from the North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS, downloaded from https://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbs) and the Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC, downloaded from http://www.christmasbirdcount.org). From these raw counts through time we calculated growth rates, and maximum carrying capacity for each dataset. CBC abundances were corrected by party hour (search time) before they were used to calculate growth rates or carrying capacities. The 5 attached data files are: bbs.abund - File containing carrying capacity data and environmental variable data used in the BBS carrying capacity analysis (50 BBS routes) bbs.growth - File containing population growth rate data and environmental variable data used in the BBS population growth rate analysis (58 BBS routes) cbc.abund - File containing carrying capacity data and environmental variable data used in the CBC carrying capacity analysis (136 CBC count circles) cbc.growth - File containing population growth rate data and environmental variable data used in the CBC population growth rate analysis (183 CBC count circles) cbc.2010.abund - File containing abundance data and environmental variable data used in the CBC single year (2010) abundance analysis (792 CBC count circles) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Land cover and climate data were collected for each BBS route by creating a 400 m buffer along the length of the route and extracting data from the NLCD and WorldClim BioClim datasets. CBC data were collected by creating a 24 km buffer around the center point of the circle and extracting data from the NLCD and WorldClim BioClim datasets. The column titles and data for each file are described below: stateroute - unique identifier of the BBS route, equal to 1000*State number + Route number location_code - 4 letter code for individual CBC count circles lat - Latitude of the starting point of each BBS route or the center of each CBC count circle in decimal degrees long - Longitude of the starting point of each BBS route or the center of each CBC count circle in decimal degrees max.abund - Calculated carrying capacity of the ECD for each BBS route or CBC count circle growth.rate - Population growth rate calculated from a fitted exponential model for each individual BBS route or CBC count circle from raw abundance data abund - Abundance of the ECD recorded by the CBC in 2010 g.c.distance - Great circle distance (km) for each BBS route or CBC count circle used in the analysis from the initial point of invasion, which was determined to be Florida route 36 for the BBS and count circle BASC for the CBC population.age - Population age of each BBS route or CBC count circle ECD population percent.dev.open - Percentage of each spatial buffer for each BBS route or CBC count circle that contained less than 20% impervious cover (2006 NLCD raster - Fry et al. 2011) percent.dev.low - Percentage of each spatial buffer for each BBS route or CBC count circle that contained between 20 and 29% impervious cover (2006 NLCD raster - Fry et al. 2011) percent.dev.med - Percentage of each spatial buffer for each BBS route or CBC count circle that contained between 50 and 79% impervious cover (2006 NLCD raster - Fry et al. 2011) percent.dev.high - Percentage of each spatial buffer for each BBS route or CBC count circle that contained over 80% impervious cover (2006 NLCD raster - Fry et al. 2011) percent.forest - Percentage of each spatial buffer for each BBS route or CBC count circle that contained either decidous, evergreen or mixed forest cover (2006 NLCD raster - Fry et al. 2011) percent.pasture - Percentage of each spatial buffer for each BBS route or CBC count circle that contained 30 by 30m cells with pasture or hay accounting for over 20% of the vegetation (2006 NLCD raster - Fry et al. 2011) percent.crops - Percentage of each spatial buffer for each BBS route or CBC count circle that contained 30 by 30m cells with crops accounting for over 20% of the vegetation (2006 NLCD raster - Fry et al. 2011) avg.precip.mm - Mean annual precipitation (mm) for each spatial buffer for each BBS route or CBC count circle (WorldClim BioClim dataset - Hijmans et al. 2005) avg.temp - Mean annual temperature (degrees Celcius) for each spatial buffer for each BBS route or CBC count circle (WorldClim BioClim dataset - Hijmans et al. 2005) Additional resources: WorldClim BioClim - www.worldclim.org/bioclim, used 20 arc minute resolution NLCD 2006 raster - http://www.mrlc.gov/nlcd2006.php, used 30m resolution - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - References: Bystrak D (1981) The North American breeding bird survey.
