This second ReadMe file supports the landmark data set ("Elrathia-kingii-landmarks.tps"). The data set contains 17 fixed landmarks summarizing the shape of the cephalon of 160 specimens of Elrathia kingii used for the shape analysis. This is a subset of the specimens used for length measurements reported in "Elrathia-kingii-length.txt". Selected specimens have fewer than three missing landmarks and no missing pairs of landmarks; missing landmarks are represented by "NA". The data is in TPS format. The landmarks have been scaled to millimeters. They are ordered starting with unpaired from anterior to posterior, followed by paired landmarks from anterior to posterior: 1. Intersection of sagittal axis and anterior margin (unpaired) 2. Intersection of sagittal axis and anterior border furrow (unpaired) 3. Intersection of sagittal axis and preglabellar furrow (unpaired) 4. Intersection of sagittal axis and occipital furrow (unpaired) 5. Intersection of sagittal axis and posterior margin (unpaired) 6, 7. Intersection of the dorsal suture and anterior border furrow (paired) 8, 9. Intersection of anterior dorsal suture and anterior end of palpebral lobe (paired) 10, 11. Intersection of posterior dorsal suture and posterior end of palpebral lobe (paired) 12, 13. Intersection of posterior dorsal suture and posterior margin (paired) 14, 15. Intersection of axial furrow and occipital furrow (paired) 15, 17. Intersection of posterior margin and axial furrow (paired) For this study, the landmark configurations were superimposed using functions in Haber 2015 (Evol. Biol. 42:99-114); see also Hopkins et al. 2016 (J. Evol. Biol. 29:1553-1568). The partial Procustes distance from the smallest specimen using the procdist function from the shapes R package (Dryden 2018, http://cran.r-project.org/ web/packages/shapes/index.html). The file "Segcount-landmarks.txt" lists the number of thoracic tergites in each specimen used for the shape analysis.
