ReadMe file for data presented in "Facultative endosymbionts mediate dietary breadth in a polyphagous herbivore" Wagner, Steven; Martinez, Adam; Ruan, Yongming; Kim, Kyungsun; Lenhart, Paul; Dehnel, Allison; Oliver, Kerry; White, Jennifer 2015-04-06 This readme file describes the data files accompanying the above publication. For further inquiries, please contact jenawhite@uky.edu The following files are included: Experiment1a: Population size of locust-origin and alfalfa-origin Aphis craccivora clones after 10 days on field alfalfa. Experiment1b: Population size of locust-origin and alfalfa-origin Aphis craccivora clones after 10 days on field locust. Experiment2a: Population size of Arsenophonus-infected and experimentally cured locust-origin LE clone after 10 days on greenhouse alfalfa, fava, or locust. Experiment2b: Population size of Arsenophonus-infected and experimentally cured locust-origin LW clone after 10 days on greenhouse alfalfa, fava, or locust. Experiment2c: Population size of Arsenophonus-infected and experimentally cured locust-origin LE and LW clones after 10 days on greenhouse alfalfa, fava, or locust. Experiment3: Population size of uninfected and Arsenophonus-transinfected alfalfa-origin AL clone, and Arsenophonus-infected and experimentally cured locust-origin LW clone after 10 days on alfalfa, fava, or locust in the lab. Experiment4: Population size of multiple Arsenophonus and Hamiltonella-infected and uninfected Aphis craccivora clones after 10 days on greenhouse locust. Experiment5a: Population size of Arsenophonus-infected, Hamiltonella-infected, and uninfected A. craccivora clones after 10 days on field locust. Experiment5b: Population size of Arsenophonus-infected, Hamiltonella-infected, and uninfected A. craccivora clones after 10 days on field locust. A replicate of experiment 5a, using a slightly different set of aphid clones. Variables included in files: clonename: corresponds to aphid clonal collections described in Table S1. cloneorigin: whether aphid clone was originally collected from alfalfa or locust. Arsenophonus: for relevant experiments, indicates whether the maternally-inherited symbiont Arsenophonus was present (1) or absent (0) from a particular clone. Hamiltonella: for relevant experiments, indicates whether the maternally-inherited symbiont Hamiltonella was present (1) or absent (0) from a particular clone. evaluatedon: experimental plant: alfalfa, fava, or locust. experimentlocale: field, greenhouse, or lab. totaphid: Total aphids present on plant after 10 days. ln(totaphid+1): transformed data used in statistical analyses. When alternate ln(totaphid) or sqrt(totaphid) are included instead, these were the transformations used in the final analysis. predator: whether a predatory organism was found in the cage at the end of the experiment. 0: no predator, 1: predator. Cages with predators were excluded from further analysis.
