######The data file contains the following sheets: - Feeding_effort_weight_fledge: used for our analyses of the effect of family size manipulation on 1) the brood weight gain when the nestlings were 6 days old until 14 days old, 2) the brood weight when the nestlings were 14 days old and 3) the number of fledglings produced -Feeding_effort_visits: used for our analysis of the effect of family size manipulation on the number of feeding visits made by the parents -Prob_late_brood: used for our analyses of the effect of family size manipulation on 1) the probability of parents to start a late brood (repeat (=failed first brood) and second broods (=succesful first brood)) or 2) a second brood. - Survival_analyses+Prob_nestbox: used for our analyses of the effect of family size manipulation on the local survival of parents over the period from the breeding season until midwinter (December) and from midwinter until spring. Furthermore it was used for our analyses of the effect of family size manipulation on the probability of parents to claim a breeding box in our nestbox removal experiment. -Survival_analyses_re_analyzed: this datafile was used for our re-analysis of the effect of family size manipulation on the local survival of parents. This time we included 14 parents which were not seen in the roost check at midwinter but were seen in March as alive at midwinter in the datafile. ####### Meaning of the column names in each datafile: ##sheet: Feeding_effort_weight_fledge # columns: ID: a unique id for the data record broodid:a unique id for the brood that the parents raised nestbox: a unique id for the nestbox of the parents family_size_manipulation:the number of nestlings taken away or added to the nest manipulation_trio:a unique number coding for the trio of nests in which the manipulations were performed broodweightdifference_day14withday6:the difference in the weight of the whole brood when 14 days old with the weight of the brood when the nestlings were 6 days old. As not all broods made it until day 14 the brood weight difference could not be calculated for all broods. n_fledged: the number of nestlings that fledged from the nest broodweightd14: the weight of the whole brood when 14 days old. Not all broods made it until this stage. ##sheet: Feeding_effort_visits # columns nestbox: a unique id for the nestbox of the parents sex_of_parent(1=F, 2=M): the sex of the parent, 1=Female, 2= Male manipulation_trio: a unique number coding for the trio of nests in which the manipulations were performed feeding_visits: the number of feeding visits made by the parents to the nestbox during the measuring period family_size_manipulation:the number of nestlings taken away or added to the nest ##sheet: Prob_late_brood # columns: ringnumber: a unique id code for the parent nestbox: a unique id for the nestbox of the parents manipulation_trio: a unique number coding for the trio of nests in which the manipulations were performed late_brood: 1=bird started a late brood (either a repeat or a second brood) or 0=bird did not start a late brood second_brood: 1=bird started a second brood or 0=bird did not start a late brood family_size_manipulation:the number of nestlings taken away or added to the nest ##sheet: Survival_analyses+Prob_nestbox # columns ringnumber: a unique id code for the parent sex_of_parent(1=F, 2=M): the sex of the parent, 1=Female, 2= Male family_size_manipulation:the number of nestlings taken away or added to the nest manipulation_trio: a unique number coding for the trio of nests in which the manipulations were performed observed_roost_check_dec: 1=bird observed roosting in one of the nest boxes in December, 0=bird not observed roosting in one of the boxes observed_roostcheck_and_obs_march: 1=bird observed in the nest boxes roosting in March and/or observed in our observation sessions (with binoculars etc) in March, 0= bird not observed in March either in the roost check or the observation sessions observed_in_nestbox_competition_exp: 1=bird observed in one of the nestboxes as member of a breeding pair in 2015 after competition for the boxes was induced, 0= bird not seen in the nestboxes during the breeding season of 2015 ##sheet: Survival_analyses_re_analyzed #columns ringnumber: a unique id code for the parent sex_of_parent(1=F, 2=M): the sex of the parent, 1=Female, 2= Male family_size_manipulation:the number of nestlings taken away or added to the nest manipulation_trio: a unique number coding for the trio of nests in which the manipulations were performed observed_roost_check_dec: 1=bird observed roosting in one of the nest boxes in December, 0=bird not observed roosting in one of the boxes observed_roostcheck_and_obs_march: 1=bird observed in the nest boxes roosting in March and/or observed in our observation sessions (with binoculars etc) in March, 0= bird not observed in March either in the roost check or the observation sessions
