Identity of each sample (sequentially numbered) B. date: Date when measurements were taken. C. year: Year when measurements were taken. Discrete numerical variable. D. season: Season when measurements were taken. Categorical variable. Levels: dry and wet. E. treatment: Species composition in each plot of the Anhembi site. Treated here as a categorial variable, but it can be used as a discrete numerical variable. Levels: 20sp: Mixture of 20 species 58sp: Mixture of 58 species 114sp: Mixture of 114 species F. replicate: Identity of the replicate within each species composition (treatment). Categorical variable. Levels: there were four replicates (A, B, C and D) of each treatment. G. point: Point within each plot where measurements were taken. Categorical variable. H. iPAR: Fraction of intercepted photosynthetically active radiation (iPAR) measured on each point. Measurements were taken using two leveled Decagon AccuPAR LP-80 ceptometers, 1 m above ground, always from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. iPAR was calculated by subtracting from 1 the ratio between the PAR (in µmol.m-2.s-1) measured on the sample point and the PAR measured outside the forest, on an open field, taken by the two ceptometers operating simultaneously. Continuous numerical variable.
