ReadMe for Coral Reef Monitoring Data (1 year, central Red Sea) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Data from: "Year-long monitoring of physico-chemical and biological variables provide a comparative baseline of coral reef functioning in the central Red Sea", PLoS ONE Authors: Roik A., Röthig T., Roder C., Ziegler M., Kremb S., Voolstra C.R. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description: Data files contain the measurements of physico-chemical parameters from a 1-year long monitoring in three coral reefs in the central Red Sea. Monitoring stations were located at depths between 7 - 9 m, where loggers were deployed 1 - 1.5 m from the reef benthos. Data was collected between September 2012 - September 2013 in a nearshore reef (at 3 km distance from shore), a midshore reef (at 10 km distance from shore), and an offshore reef (at 25km distance from shore). Please refer to the Materials & Methods section of the research article Roik et al. 2016 (PLoS ONE) for more details. Notes: Temperature data deposited here was aslo part of the study Roik et al. 2015 (Coral Reefs) Inorganic nutrient data was collected and used for multivariate analyses in Ziegler et al. 2015 (Mar Ecol Prog Ser.) Data was extracted using the manufacturer’s software. Sampling frequency was set to 60-minutes intervals recording averages over 10 measurements. CTD raw sensor outputs were converted to engineering units using SBE Data processing software (v.7.23.1) according to individual calibration specifications (Seabird, USA). The optical variables turbidity and chlorophyll were corrected by the offset from dark current readings performed in the lab. Subsequently, outliers were removed; all continuous data were stacked over the full year per reef site.
