README for data set from Kakioka et al. 2021 Journal of Evolutionary Biology. The data set accompanies five Dryad data files. Uploaded: May 2021 Revised: June 2021 Contact: Kazunori Yamahira (yamahira@lab.u-ryukyu.ac.jp) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- File 1: Poso_Oryzias.vcf The VCF file containing 916 biallelic SNPs among the three Poso species. REF and ALT alleles represent major and minor alleles, respectively, rather than reference and alternative. This is due to the specification of the populations program of the Stacks pipeline that was used to produce the file. The sequence files are available from DDBJ/EMBL-EBI/NCBI Sequence Read Archive under the accession number DRA012129. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- File 2: GM_Coordinate_Gut_Gill_Morphology.xlsx Morphological data of the three Poso species. Each row in the data file represents measurements for a single individual. The measurements that were not conducted are left blank. The measurements that could not be conducted due to damage to the sample or malformation are coded with "NA". Column headers: Collection_site - The collection site where the individual was obtained. Date_collection - The date of collection in YYMMDD format. Collection dates for the samples of Oryzias soerotoi were not recorded because they were captive-bred in the aquarium. Species - The scientific name of the individual. Sex - The sex of the individual. Individual_ID - The ID of the individual. 1X to 15Y - Raw X and Y coordinates of 15 landmarks used for the geometric morphometric analyses. The positions of the landmarks are as follows: 1, anterior extent of maxilla; 2–5, upper ends of perpendicular at the anterior extent of orbit, at the posteroventral extent of the operculum, at the anterior insertion of the pelvic fin, and at the anterior insertion of the anal fin, respectively; 6 and 7, anterior and posterior insertions of the dorsal fin, respectively; 8, insertion of the dorsalmost caudal-fin principal ray; 9, posterior end of hypural; 10, insertion of the ventral most caudal-fin principal ray; 11 posterior insertion of anal fin; 12–13, anterior insertions of anal and pelvic fins, respectively; 14, posterioventral extent of operculum; 15, the lower end of perpendicular at the anterior extent of orbit. See Mokodongan et al. 2018 Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution for the graphical representation of the landmark configurations. Standard_length_mm - The standard length of the sample in mm. Gut_length_mm - The length of the gastrointestinal tract in mm. 1st_raker_length_mm to 23rd_raker_length_mm - The lengths of each of the first to 23rd gill rakers in mm. 1st-2nd_raker_interval_mm to 22nd-23rd_raker_interval_mm - The intervals of neighboring gill rakers in mm. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- File 3: Stable_Isotope_Analyses.xlsx δ13C and δ15N values of the three Poso species. Each row in the data file represents measurements for a single individual. Column headers: Collection_site - The collection site where the individual was obtained. Date_collection - The date of collection in YYMMDD format. Species - The scientific name of the individual. Sex - The sex of the individual. Individual_ID - The ID of the individual. d13C - δ13C of the individual. d15N - δ15N of the individual. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- File 4: Egg_Size.xlsx Egg size of the three Poso species. Each row in the data file represents measurements for a single egg. Column headers: Species - The scientific name of the female that deposited the egg. Clutch_ID - The ID of a clutch of the female that deposited the egg. Diameter_mm - The diameter of the egg in mm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- File 5: Mating_Experiments.xlsx Time until spawning and mating sequence in each mating trial. Each row in the data file represents a single mating trial. Conspecific_vs_heterospecific - Whether the female and the male used for the trial are of the same (conspecific) or different (heterospecific) species. Female_species - The scientific name of the female that was used for the trial. Male_species - The scientific name of the male that was used for the trial. Female_ID - The ID of the female that was used for the trial. Male_ID - The ID of the male that was used for the trial. Day - One of three days when the trial (one trial in a day) was made, from the first (Day1) to the third (Day3). Time_until_spawning_min - Time until the occurrence of spawning from the start of the trial in minutes. Cells are left blank if the female did not spawn by the end of the trial. Mating_sequence - The sequence of color change of the female and the male represented with the following codes: MB, the male became black; FB, the female became black; MW, the male became whitish. All females that became black spawned thereafter.
