ReadMe for Too hot to die? The effects of vegetation shading on past, present, and future activity budgets of two diurnal skinks from arid Australia by Annegret Grimm-Seyfarth, Jean-Baptiste Mihoub, and Klaus Henle 2017-06-21 This readme file describes the data files and supplementary files accompanying the above publication. For any further queries please contact annegret.grimm@ufz.de The Excel-file (version 2010) contains the following three tables: 1) "C. regius" Operative and environmental temperatures measured every 10 minutes in Febrary 2015 and February 2016 for Ctenotus regius in Kinchega National Park, Australia. 2) "M. boulengeri" Operative and environmental temperatures measured every 10 minutes in Febrary 2015 and February 2016 for Morethia boulengeri in Kinchega National Park, Australia. 3) "Environmental temperature" Environmental temperatures measured every three hours from February 2014 to February 2016 in the specific study area in Kinchega National Park, Australia. The column names of the first two tables are as follows: Day - successive number of different days measured Year - year mesured Date - exact date measured Time - exact time measured Sun - average operative temperature in sun at that specific point in time (across three copper pipe models) Periphery-E - average operative temperature in the eastern bush periphery at that specific point in time (across three copper pipe models) Periphery-S - average operative temperature in the southern bush periphery at that specific point in time (across three copper pipe models) Periphery-W - average operative temperature in the western bush periphery at that specific point in time (across three copper pipe models) Shadow - average operative temperature in the bush centre at that specific point in time (across three copper pipe models) Bush_type - whether the bush examined was small, medium or large Bus_vol - the calculated volume of the bush examined Bus_area - the calculated surface area covered by the bush examined Bush_species - the species of the bush examined Shade.Euc - whether the location was occassionally shaded by single Eucalyptus largiflorens trees i.air - air temperatures i.sun - surface temperatures in the sun i.periphery - surface temperature under the periphery of a bush i.shadow - surface temperatre in the shadow i.burrow - temperature in a burrow The column names of the last table are as follows: Date.standard - a time-date variable Year - year measured Month - month measured Day - day measured Time - time measured Tair - air temperature Tsoil-10.shadow - temperature in 10 cm soil shaded Tsoil-10.sun - temperature in 10 cm soil not shaded (sun) Tsoil.shadow - soil surface temperature in the shadow Tsoil.sun - soil surface temperature in the sun All temperature measurements are in °C, volume is in m³ and are is in m².
