ReadMe for American black bears perceive and attempt to mitigate risks of crossing roads : Ditmer, Rettler, Fieberg, Iaizzo,Laske, Noyce, Garshelis This readme file provides a description of variables included in the analysis of bear heart rate responses to crossing roadways (variables used to model MAXHRstep). 2017-09-14 For any further queries please contact ditme004@umn.edu The following files are included: Date_Time: Date and time of terminal location of each movement step (m/d/y h:m:s) BearID: First five digits are the unique bear ID, last two digits are the year (20XX) RoadX_total: total number of roads crossed in a given movement step (not used for analysis but used in summary statistics) ROADX: whether a road was crossed or not in a given movement step TRAFFVOL: mean traffic volume (estimated cars per hour in all lanes) of the roadways crossed in a movement step MAXHRstep: maximum heart rate (beats per minute) recorded by the cardiac biologger during the movement step AG_URB: if = 1; terminal location of the movement step either in agriculture (see manuscript for details) or developed landcover type; other landcover (= 0) MOVERATE: rate of movement between subsequent bear GPS-locations (distance [m]/ time [mins]; see note above) Julian: Julian date of the movement step's terminal location SunAlt: altitude of the sun above or below the the horizon in Thief River Falls, MN at the time of the terminal location of the movement step SunAltBin: 1 = SunAlt >= 0, 0 = SunAlt < 0 DemoClass: Sex and reproductive status (females only) in a given year. 3 categories = (Female w/ cubs [of the year], Female w/o cubs [of the year], Male)
