Crypsis in the pelagic realm: evidence from exceptionally preserved fossil fish larvae from the Eocene Stolleklint Clay of Denmark By Miriam Heingård, Peter Sjövall, René L. Sylvestersen, Bo P. Schultz and Johan Lindgren Published in Palaeontology Well-preserved fossil fish larvae are reported from the earliest Eocene Stolleklint Clay that exhibit detailed pigmentation patterns. Five individual fossil samples are included, of which one (NHMD 625460) was selected for detailed analysis by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS).
