Abstract
This dataset pertains to a study of the influence of uniform and non-uniform temperature distributions in a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) plate on the detection of structural damage using the electromechanical impedance (EMI) method. Two tests were conducted on the test specimen under two temperature conditions: uniformly distributed at around 50 °C and non-uniformly distributed, with one of its corners heated to around 90 °C. For each test, the real part of the impedance signatures was collected, along with the corresponding thermal images of the test specimen. Impedance signatures for the specimen at room temperature, around 25 ºC were also collected and referenced as baseline in the dataset. To collect the impedance signatures, a 7BB-20-6 piezoelectric diaphragm was attached 50 mm from the lower right corner of the test specimen.

Description of the data and file structure
Files and variables
File: CFRP_Temp_Dist.zip
Description:
When extracting the data file, readers will find three directories: “CFRP Plate”, “Uniform Temperature” and “Non-Uniform Temperature”.
The *.txt files are text files and can be opened with any simple text editor.
The *.jpeg and *.jpg files are image files and can be opened in any photo program.
Directory "CFRP Plate"
File "CFRP_Plate.jpeg": photo of the CFRP plate with dimensions of 500 mm × 400 mm × 3 mm used to obtain the data. The photo shows two 7BB-20-6 piezoelectric diaphragms fixed to the test specimen, one of which was used in the tests and the other was not, as indicated in the photo.
File “Uniform.jpg”: thermal image of a CFRP plate uniformly heated to approximately 50°C using a heat gun. The image was obtained using a FLIR C2 thermal camera.
File “Non-Uniform.jpg”: thermal image of the CFRP plate with non-uniform temperature distribution, obtained by heating only the upper right corner to around 90 ºC using a heat gun. The image was obtained using a FLIR C2 thermal camera.
Directory "Uniform Temperature"
Data obtained for the CFRP plate under uniform temperature distribution. The files named "Uniform_1.txt", "Uniform_2.txt", and "Uniform_3.txt" contain the data obtained for the CFRP plate under uniform temperature distribution at approximately 50 ºC. The data were obtained with three consecutive repetitions, where the number at the end of the file name indicates the repetition.
The files named "Baseline_1.txt", "Baseline_2.txt", and "Baseline_3.txt" contain data obtained for the CFRP plate at room temperature of approximately 25 ºC immediately before heating. The data were obtained with three consecutive repetitions, where the number at the end of the file name indicates the repetition.
The files have two columns, as follows:
First column: frequency [Hertz]
Second column: real part of the impedance [Ohm]
Directory "Non-Uniform Temperature"
Data obtained for the CFRP plate under non-uniform temperature distribution. The files named "Non_Uniform_1.txt", "Non_Uniform_2.txt" and "Non_Uniform_3.txt" contain the CFRP plate data under non-uniform temperature distribution obtained by heating only the upper right corner to around 90 ºC.
