Abstract

This dataset accompanies a study assessing the long-term potential for climate refugia in mountain forests of Berchtesgaden National Park (Germany). Forest dynamics were simulated over 1,000 years using the individual-based forest landscape model iLand under historical climate and two future climate scenarios (RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5), including natural disturbance regimes of wind and bark beetle outbreaks. Climate refugia capacity was quantified by comparing present and future forest communities using a modified Bray–Curtis similarity index that accounts for both species persistence and rarity. Environmental drivers of refugia capacity were evaluated using Boosted Regression Trees. The repository contains simulation outputs, derived refugia capacity metrics, environmental predictor variables, and analysis scripts used to reproduce the results presented in the associated publication. These data support analyses of long-term forest community dynamics, climate refugia, disturbance interactions, and the influence of topographic, climatic, management, and biotic factors on forest resilience under climate change.
