Abstract
This dataset was used to assess family-level beetle bycatch diversity in relation to forest stand conditions and forest fragmentation in red alder-dominated forests. Bycatch included all beetle individuals, except ambrosia beetles, captured in ethanol-baited Lindgren multiple-funnel traps at five forested sites in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada in 2024. Data collected include trap coordinates, plot coordinates, and measurements of stand conditions and fragmentation, and per-trap values of family richness, Shannon Diversity Index, and abundances of selected families that contained scolytine predators.

Description of the data and file structure
Data were collected to test the hypotheses that (1) forest stand conditions influence beetle bycatch diversity by affecting habitat and food availability, and (2) forest fragmentation influences beetle bycatch diversity by altering habitat connectivity and patch size in red alder ecosystems. Beetles were sampled using ethanol-baited Lindgren multiple-funnel traps at five red alder-dominated sites in British Columbia in 2024 to measure per-trap family richness, Shannon Diversity Index, and abundances of select families. Plot measurements were used to quantify stand conditions and fragmentation.

Description: Coordinates of five ethanol-baited Lindgren multiple-funnel traps at each of the five study sites in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada, used to determine plot centres for 11.28 m and 1 km-radius plots to measure stand condition and forest fragmentation, respectively.

Description: Plot information (coordinates of the plot centre, aspect, and slope) and tree data (species, abundance, diameter at breast height (DBH), and alive or dead status) of the 11.28 m-radius fixed-area plot at each site. Tree data were used to quantify stand conditions regarding tree attributes, including densities and mean DBH of live and dead trees, species richness, and species diversity. Only live and standing dead trees ≥ 8.0 cm DBH were recorded and measured.

- Date of measurement (yyyy-mm-dd): Date when plot data were collected, formatted as year-month-day.
- Site: Geographical location where the data were collected. ARP = Aldergrove Regional Park; BL = Burnaby Lake Regional Park; MK = Malcolm Knapp Research Forest; PSP = Pacific Spirit Regional Park; TRP = Tynehead Regional Park.
- Plot centre coordinates: Geographical location of the plot centre, expressed as [latitude], [longitude].
- Plot aspect (degrees): Degree aspect of the plot.
- Plot slope (degrees): Degree slope of the plot.
- Tree no.: The assigned number for each tree with ≥ 8.0 cm DBH within the plot.
- Species: Tree species, recorded in scientific name, for each tree ≥ 8.0 cm DBH within the plot.
- DBH (cm): The diameter at breast height (DBH, measured at 1.3 m upslope) for each tree ≥ 8.0 cm DBH within the plot.
- Dead or alive: Tree was considered alive if green foliage was present; dead if foliage was absent (broadleaf trees) or absent and/or brown (conifers), determined during leaf-on conditions.

Description: Data used to quantify forest fragmentation were collected within 1 km-radius plot at each site, using satellite images from Google Earth Pro. Data included the number of forest patches, the perimeter, area, and edge-to-area ratio of each forest patch. Forest fragmentation was quantified as the total number of forest patches, mean forest patch size (average area of patches), mean edge-to-area ratio (average perimeter to area ratio of patches), and percentage forest area (proportion of summed patch areas within the 1 km-radius plot).

Description: Family-level richness per trap, used for pairwise comparisons between sites and to evaluate its relationship with forest stand conditions and fragmentation using single-predictor COM-Poisson regressions.
