Abstract

These datasets were used to assess the fresh pulse observed in the New York Bight (NYB) in 2024 and its ecological impacts. These datasets, assessed in the NYB, include the annual cumulative cold pool volume; the annual cumulative volume of freshwater; the aragonite saturation state by year, season and depth class; the density of Calanus finmarchicus copepods by year, season and depth class;  body condition index values for humpback whales by year; and estimates of the number and residence time of humpback whales from photo-identification.  Detailed methods for each of these datasets is available in the manuscript published in Scientific Reports (DOI : https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-026-57921-4).
