Abstract
This dataset contains processed ecological and population-level data used to investigate the phylogeography of Ips sexdentatus in the Basque Country. The dataset is organized into three supplementary tables comprising biodiversity metrics, ecological community analyses, and population genetic information.
The dataset consists of processed numerical and categorical variables suitable for ecological, biogeographical, phylogeographic, and population genetic analyses. It can be reused for comparative studies of forest biodiversity, insect population structure, host associations, historical biogeography, climatic influences on genetic diversity, and meta-analyses involving bark beetle populations.
The dataset does not contain personal information or sensitive data. No legal or ethical restrictions apply beyond the licensing conditions under which the dataset is distributed.
This dataset is associated with the publication: From Glacial Echoes to Timber Pathways: Climatic–Historical Drivers and Timber-Trade Influence on the Phylogeography of Ips sexdentatus in the Basque Country by N. Dimitrios Avtzis, Nebai Mesanza, Aitor Sáez de Zerain, Diego Llamazares, and Eugenia Iturritxa (Agricultural and Forest Entomology, 2026). The publication provides additional scientific interpretation of the data, although the dataset has been documented to facilitate independent reuse.

Description of the data and file structure

Summary of alpha diversity indices (species richness, Shannon, Simpson, and evenness) for forest ecosystems across all sampling locations.
Supplementary Table 1 contains alpha diversity metrics for each sampling location, including species richness, Shannon diversity, Simpson diversity, and Pielou's evenness indices, together with the surface area (m²) occupied by different pine species.

Species differentiating bioclimates A and AM (SIMPER).
Supplementary Table 2 contains the results of a SIMPER (Similarity Percentage) analysis identifying the tree species that contribute most to the differentiation between the two bioclimatic regions (A and AM).
Species are abrreviated using standardized codes: Pira, Pinus radiata; Pisy, P. sylvestris, Pini, P. nigra; Pipina, P. pinaster; Piha, P. halepensis; Pita, P. taeda; Piat, P. attenuate; Pipine, P. pinea

Total number of Ips sexdentatus populations/individuals screened in Avtzis et al. (2019) and in the current study.
Supplementary Table 3 summarizes the sampling effort and genetic dataset, including the number of Ips sexdentatus populations, individuals, and mitochondrial haplotypes analyzed in both the present study and previously published data.
