Abstract
These long-term seed data of three broadleaved species (Fagus sylvatica, Acer pseudoplatanus, Fraxinus excelsior) and three coniferous species (Picea abies, Abies alba, Larix decidua) were recorded at two Austrian old-growth forest sites. In the associated study (Oberklammer et al. 2026), they were combined with weekly weather data and then used for hind- and forecasting seed production. In reforestation and restoration, seed production forecasting has the potential to support planning and resource allocation, while providing benefits for wildlife management and public health.
This dataset includes two csv-files of species-specific mean annual tree seed rain per m2 for two Austrian study sites, Rothwald and Zoebelboden.
These seed data are based on seed traps. A detailed description of the method can be found in the main paper.
