Abstract
This dataset contains cross-sectional data on depressive symptoms, HIV risk behaviors, and oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) enrolled in Kenya. Between 2023 and 2024, 300 participants aged 18–24 years completed the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) to assess depressive symptoms. Key variables include PHQ-9 scores, HIV risk behaviors, PrEP uptake, and PrEP adherence. Depressive symptoms were dichotomized (PHQ-9 score ≥10 vs. <10). The dataset supports analyses examining the prevalence of depressive symptoms, their association with HIV risk behaviors, and their impact on PrEP adherence among AGYW in sub-Saharan Africa.

Description of the data and file structure
These data were collected as part of a cross-sectional study designed to examine the relationship between depressive symptoms, HIV risk behaviors, and oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) adherence among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). Participants completed standardized mental health assessments (PHQ-9), behavioral surveys, and self-reported measures of PrEP uptake and adherence. The dataset includes demographic characteristics, depression scores, indicators of HIV risk behavior, and PrEP-related outcomes. Data collection took place between 2023 and 2024 in Kenya.
