Abstract

This dataset documents diel (24-h) variation in floral attractants and insect activity in apple (Malus domestica) over two flowering seasons (April 2021 and April 2022) in northwest Arkansas, USA. Data are organized into nine files, including comma-delimited tables for nectar production, floral volatile composition, and insect counts, as well as exemplar infrared video files documenting nocturnal flower visitation. Specifically, the dataset includes (1) measurements of nectar volume from individual apple flowers, (2) floral volatile profiles derived from gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), summarized as raw chromatographic outputs, (3) nocturnal insect abundance data obtained from transect surveys and light traps, (4) infrared video recordings of arthropod visits to apple flowers across the full 24-hour cycle, and (5) associated environmental variables (air temperature, wind speed, and cloud cover). These data are suitable for reuse in studies of plant–pollinator interactions, diel ecology, chemical ecology, agroecology, and pollinator-inclusive management. All data were collected from managed research orchards and do not involve protected species, sensitive locations, or human subjects. There are no known legal or ethical restrictions on reuse beyond appropriate citation of the dataset and associated publication.
