Abstract
This dataset was generated from direct numerical simulations (DNS) of turbulent von Kármán flows in a cylinder using the Nek5000 solver. The dataset includes instantaneous velocity field files and postprocessing configuration files, mean velocity fields (.mat format), global helical-wave energy spectra at different Reynolds numbers (.mat format), and energy transfer functions (.mat format). These data can be used to reproduce and verify the results presented in the associated publication, as well as for visualization of the instantaneous velocity fields.

Description of the data and file structure
This dataset was generated from direct numerical simulations (DNS) of turbulent von Kármán flows in a cylinder using the Nek5000 solver, with the highest Reynolds number of 150,000.
It includes instantaneous velocity fields, mean flow fields, global helical-wave energy spectra at different Reynolds numbers, and energy transfer functions.
The dataset supports the results of the associated Physical Review Fluids publication (DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/n56l-3ylf).

Code/software
This dataset was generated using the open-source spectral element solver Nek5000 (https://nek5000.mcs.anl.gov/) for direct numerical simulations of turbulent von Kármán flows.
MATLAB was used for postprocessing, including the generation of energy spectra, energy transfer functions, and mean flow fields.
The workflow is as follows:
- Postprocessing were performed with Nek5000 using the provided configuration files (.par, .usr, SIZE) and grid files (.re2, .ma2).
- Simulation output files (e.g., vortex0.f0XXXX) were postprocessed to compute mean fields, energy spectra, and energy transfer functions.
