Abstract
This dataset contains GPS locations of Atlantic brant (Branta bernicla hrota) nests found on Southampton Island and Prince Charles Island, Nunavut, Canada between 2004 and 2025.
Dataset DOI: 10.5061/dryad.b8gtht7tc
Description of the data and file structure
Nests on Southampton Island were found and monitored opportunistically while researchers were searching for other species' nests. Nests on Prince Charles Island were found by methodologically searching likely Atlantic brant nesting habitat within walking distance of an existing field camp location. Most nests were never revisited, so status is listed as unknown.

Description: GPS locations of Atlantic brant (Branta bernicla hrota) nests found on Southampton Island and Prince Charles Island, Nunavut, Canada between 2004 and 2025.
Variables
| column id | description |
|---|---|
| site | general site/area description |
| year | year in which data was collected |
| nestID | unique identifier for each nest |
| species | species which created/is incubating the nest |
| latitude_dd | latitude of the nest in decimal degrees |
| longitude_dd | longitude of the nest in decimal degrees |
| nest_fate | success = the nest was revisted and found to have hatched, failed = the nest was revisited and found to have failed, unknown = the nest was not revisited or the nest was revisited and the status was undetermined |
| fail_cause | if the nest was found to have failed, the cause of the failure based on available evidence (e.g., cracked shells pecked by a bird) |
| clutch_size | the maximum number of eggs found in the nest at the time of last visit |
| date_nest_found | date on which the nest was found MM/DD/YYYY |
