Abstract

The effects of climate stressors on coastal systems have been studied across multiple biological scales, often focusing on single environmental variables such as temperature and pH and their influence on community structure, species’ performance and biogeochemical cycles. In contrast, the effects of multiple climate stressors on nutrient cycling remain relatively unknown, especially in coastal systems. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a factorial field experiment to test the hypothesis that increasing intensity of climate stressors would alter the flux and availability of NO₃⁻ and NH₄⁺ through changes in local biological processes. Data include environmental conditions (temperature, pH), biota (percent cover of consumers and producers), and concentrations and accumulation rates of NO₃⁻ and NH₄⁺ associated with these manipulations, conducted in 20 tide pools on the coast of Southeast Alaska, USA over five months from May to September, 2019.
