Abstract
Photochemical ammonification of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) is a vital ammonium (NH4⁺) source in sunlit oceans, but its mechanisms and climate sensitivity remains unclear. Here, we experimentally determined the effects of DOM stoichiometry, temperature, salinity, and oxygen on the broadband apparent quantum yield of photoammonification (AQYNH4+) for terrestrial and marine dissolved organic matter (DOM). So, this dataset contains the AQYNH4+ of Suwannee River humic and fulvic acids (SRHA and SRFA), representing terrestrial DOM, versus salinity, AQYNH4+ of SRHA, SRFA, and surface seawater samples collected in the South China Sea and Northwestern Pacific versus temperature, oxygen and N:C mole ratio of DOM were presented.

Description: We submitted our data to Dryad, containing the broadband apparent quantum yield of DOM photoammonification (AQYNH4+) versus N:C ratio of DOM. salinity, temperature and oxygen. The samples include Suwannee River humic and fulvic acids (SRHA and SRFA), surface seawater collected from the South China Sea shelf and basin and the Northwestern Pacific in summer 2023. SRHA and SRFA represent typical terrestrial DOM, while DOM in seawater samples are mainly marine origin. The photoproduction of ammonium (i.e. photoammonification) experiments were carried out in the land-based laboratory. The AQYNH4+ versus N:C for all the samples, as well as two more data from published reference, AQYNH4+ versus salinity for SRHA and SRFA, AQYNH4+ versus temperature and oxygen for SRHA, SRFA, shelf (S1) and one basin sample (O1) are presented.
