Abstract

This dataset accompanies a study that developed and validated the Yoga Motivation Scale (YMS) to assess the motivations of yoga participants in Türkiye. As yoga continues to expand in emerging markets, understanding the motivations underlying participation is important for both researchers and practitioners. The study followed a scale development process consisting of three stages: item development, scale development, and scale evaluation. Data were collected from adult yoga participants and used to evaluate the psychometric properties of the proposed scale. The final instrument consists of 24 items across five dimensions representing intrinsic motivations (escape and achievement) and extrinsic motivations (visibility, socialization, and reference). The dataset includes participants' demographic characteristics and responses to all YMS items. These data may be used for psychometric validation, cross-cultural comparisons, and future research on yoga participation and consumer motivation in emerging yoga markets.
