Abstract
These reads were collected during Fecal DNA Metabarcoding of samples collected from diamondback terrapin (DBT). The data set contains PCR reads for amplified DNA collected from diamondback terrapins.

Description of the data and file structure
Fecal DNA Metabarcoding Read Data.
Files:
- JVB3405-23S-read-data.csv
- JVB3405-UniCOI-read-data_(1).csv
The columns on the left contain taxonomic information collected from submitting the sequences as bioinformatic queries to the to NCBI GenBank database. The columns that follow are the numbers of reads that match that particular sequence query in each row for the animal represented by the column. The data presented in each column represents an individual animal. Some of the data set cells for the taxonomical information are blank. This is due to the fact that some amplicons contain sequences that cannot identify the source of DNA down to the species level, and thus lower taxonomic information is left blank.
JVB3405-UniCOI-read-data_(1).csv does not have column headers. The data is organized as follows.
Column A contains the Test ID, or the probe used to detect the reads. UniCOI was used for invertebrates for the JBV3405-UniCOI-read-data file, and JBV3405-23S-read-data was used to detect plant DNA.
Columns B contains the read ID, and column C contains the read DNA sequence detected.
Columns D-J contain bioinformatics data concerning the origin of the fecal DNA detected, and identify the Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Species, respectively.
Column K indicates the % sequence match to that found in the NCBI GenBank database.
The data in column K identifies common names for the tax identified.
Column M indicates the number of species in the lowest identified taxonomic level for a specific read.
Columns N-DB contain the number of times that each specific read was detected in the amplicon for the fecal sample from each animal tested.

DNA was isolated from each sample using QIAamp® PowerFecal® Pro DNA isolation kits (Qiagen, Germantown, MD, USA). The DNA was submitted to Jonah Ventures (Boulder, CO, USA). The DNA was amplified using primers to detect the presence of plant material (trnl, Taberlet 2007) and invertebrates (COI, Leray et al. 2013).
