Abstract
This dataset contains field measurements of non-native seed predation across a precipitation gradient, in two microhabitat types, and multiple sampling periods. Seed removal experiments were conducted to quantify predation rates under varying environmental conditions. The dataset includes removal, environmental variables (e.g., precipitation), microhabitat descriptors, and temporal information. This dataset contains field measurements of non-native seed predation collected across multiple sites along a precipitation gradient, different microhabitats, and sampling dates. Seed depots were established and monitored to quantify seed removal as a proxy for predation. The dataset includes environmental, spatial, and temporal variables associated with each observation.

Data file structure
Each row represents a single observation of a seed depot checked on a given date.
Variables:
- site: Identifier for each study site.
- precip: Mean annual precipitation at the site (units: mm/year).
- date.installed: Date when the depot was installed (format: DD-MM-YYYY).
- day.checked: Date when the depot was checked (format: DD-MM-YYYY).
- depot: Identifier for each seed depot (unique within site and date).
- microhabitat: Type of microhabitat where the depot was placed (open or closed vegetation).
- rodent.richness: Number of species recorded by camera traps.
- seeds.eaten: Number of seeds removed (used as a proxy for predation).
- total: Total number of seeds initially placed in the depot.
Missing values (NA):
NA values in the column rodent.richness indicate that rodent richness data were not available because no camera-trap/video records were obtained for that sampling unit, preventing estimation of species richness.
File format:
The file Chiuffoetal.Oikosdata.csv is semicolon-delimited (;).
