Abstract

This dataset contains measurements of body specific gravity (SG), swimbladder size, and vertical swimming layer position of newly hatched larvae from three migratory (amphidromous) Gymnogobius species, one of which includes both amphidromous and freshwater-resident populations. Larvae were reared under controlled freshwater and seawater conditions, and body SG was measured using density-adjusted solutions (1.0010–1.0490 in SG). Swimbladder size was quantified using image analysis, and vertical swimming behavior was recorded in tank experiments. The dataset includes individual-level data with species identity, rearing salinity, SG values, swimbladder measurements, and observed swimming depths. There are no legal or ethical restrictions associated with this dataset; all experimental protocols complied with relevant institutional and national guidelines for the care and use of animals in research.
